Evaluation of the effect of oxidative stress on dynamics of cardiac biomarkers in Georgian elite athletes with overtraining syndrome

Background Training professional athletes comprises repetitive overloading to initiate structural and functional changes for favorable adaptation the workouts, but with an inadequate recovery may produce non-functional overreaching(NFO) then overtraining syndrome(OTS). It is important study chronic effects exercises via responses biomarkers understanding muscle fatigue cardiac damage identify at risk poor training[3,4]. The purpose was oxidative stress on dynamics in Georgian elite OTS. Methods On initial stage 43 athletes(37 NFO, 6 OTS) relationship between OTS revealed imbalance oxidant production antioxidant protection attenuation capacity OTS[1,2]. current our study,in NFO/OTS 40 age-matched controls without pre-season serum creatine kinase myocardial band(CK-MB) troponin I(cTnI) were measured, followed by in-season evaluation dynamic their changes(HUMAN,Germany). In-season levels CK-MB cTnI obtained 24hrs before strenuous sport-specific exercise peak-season intensity, immediately after work-load,after 6, 48,and 72hrs. Baseline post-execise clinical assessment transthoracic echocardiography(TTE) performed 48hrs session(6 hrs corresponds time when typically detectable ischemic models;48 hrs-CK concentrations time). Results Similar rising trend observed exercise, reaching peak values 6hrs all athletes, though, significantly greater than controls, slightly exceeded reference range (in NFO 0.128±0.092ng/ml, 0.137±0.061ng/ml). After higher entry, showing slower recovery,though normalized TTE didn’t reveal any sustained alterations systolic diastolic functions, or clinically threatening damage, only minor due post-exercise haemodynamic athletes(E/A pre-exercise:1.47±0.25, post-exercise:in 1.06±0.14,in 1.40±0.09,p<0,05). Elevated markers can be linked increased cellular permeability leakage, amplified existent athletes.
